A Question for Christians: "Why do you think the Universe had a beginning?"

"Why do you think the Universe had a beginning?" is one of the frequent questions that Christians get asked from atheists or naturalists.  It also happens to be a very important question to answer, since the beginning of the universe points powerfully to a Creator, and a beginningless/uncaused universe would go right along with the atheistic view of the cosmos.

But how can we "prove" definitively that the universe does indeed have a beginning?

I would love to see all of you take a stab at answering this question, and whoever gets the first correct answer sent to me at jason@claycup.com will be announced on "Intelligent Faith 315" in the near future.  Out of all our viewers in China, Russia, Germany, U.S., Puerto Rico, Australia, Latvia, and the United Kingdom, let's see who can be the first to give the correct response.....

Remember the command of Peter in 1 Pt 3:15?....."always be ready to give an answer...."

God bless you, until next time!

  1. Hey J,
if you look at the evidence, you can see that the universe is expanding. Scientists have observed that throught the hubble space telescope. They have also observed the "ripples" that was left by what they call the big bang. The universe is also cooling down, so if something is cooling down it means that it has a biginning, it couldnt have been like that for infinity.

  2. The universe had a biginning why should I think so hard on this one, it's not because we needed a place to live? A place where we could see how awesome is God and the magnitud of His power thru nature, the miracle of giving birth? We needed a biggining so God could accomplish His plan thru Jesus our savior!

  4. I think because of this analogy works. Let's say that we were to see a group of rocks with a certain shape in Mars. We may see that and come into conclusion that over millions of years went by and those rocks were align that way. This could be one way, to see it as possible. But if you were to see a rock with the words, "Hello Jason", one would normally see the work of an intelligent being. It didn't got there by chance but rather than design. It is so illogical as to think that a book can come together, after an explosion in an printing shop, or by thinking that an airplane can come out from an explosion in a Junk Yard. It is to complex to come by random events. Now, why do I think that the universe must have a beginning, because it was far to complex to leave it up to chance in, and like scripture say indeed, "The heavens tell about the glory of God. The skies show that his hands created them." Psalm 19:1
